Solar power at night is unavailable due to the lack of sunlight. As there is no sunlight, your solar panels are not actively producing energy. At night, you are still able to get electricity because your home is connected to the utility grid.

During the day, there are peak hours when your solar panels are working at optimal levels. They produce not only enough energy to power your home but also excess energy. This excess energy goes back into the electric utility grid, making your electric meter run backward. This gives you “credit.” This process is known as net-metering and what homeowners use to get solar power at night. If you are not grid connected and want to power your home at night, you need to install a solar battery array. The solar battery array will store the excess energy that is produced by your solar energy system. The stored energy will be used to power your home at night or when the solar system is not producing any power.
